Timeline: Soloable unofficial solo mode

Timeline is a great light weight game that works really well in a family setting or as quick filler game. I reviewed Timeline on this blog. This Soloable Unofficial Solo Mode provides the option to play the game solitaire.

Timeline, when you strip away the history trivia aspect, is fundamentally a game in which you are racing to beat your opponents, making every single card play a potential game winning move. But the appeal of the game is very much about the collaborative creation of the timeline itself.

Consequently this solo mode shifts the aim of the game to adding as many cards as possible to the timeline as you can, while retaining the punishment for wrong guesses.

Rules

As with the standard game, shuffle the deck and deal yourself 4 cards. Draw the next card from the deck and place it in the center of the table.

On your turn, place a card on the timeline as per the normal rules (before the first card, after the last card, or between existing cards).

Unlike the standard game however, if you guess incorrectly, do not discard the card but add it to a ‘Lost to history’ pile, then draw another card.

If however you place correctly, draw two cards. Then discard any card from your hand to a discard pile (a great way to be rid of those ‘when on earth did that happen’ cards).

The game continues until the ‘Lost to history’ pile contains 5 cards. Your score is the number of cards in your timeline.
