Carcassonne Labyrinth

I’m not sure how this has only now appeared on my radar, but this board game mash-up is to be released very shortly!

I have always thought that Labyrinth was a great idea on paper, but in reality have always found it to be somewhat frustrating. There is no real way to plan ahead as your moves are immediately undone by your opponents. Consequently it ends up being a bit of a slog in which the winner is determined by whoever had the most luck regarding other people’s moves.

Nevertheless, I have always had a spot for Labyrinth. I love anything relating to mazes, and there is something very pleasing about seeing a maze constantly morphing into different patterns. So I am always a little intrigued whenever a new version comes out, even if it always turns out to be just a reskin.

Carcassonne Labyrinth however is clearly not a reskin, but instead appears to be a genuine mash up between Labyrinth and one of my favourite games of all time, Carcassonne. I have had a quick look at the rules, and it looks intriguing – you are basically playing a game of Labyrinth in which special treasure tiles and the tiles nudged off the board are used by the players to build their own personal Carcassonne maps. The tiles can also be used as a mini expansion for the regular game of Carcassonne!

Also worth noting that the official player count is 1-4 players, so solo players are catered for right out of the box.

Carcassonne Labyrinth will be released on 1st August – I can’t wait!
